Calhoun County, AL – Piedmont has big day at the plate, three-hitter from Austin in wins over Handley and Coosa Central. White Plains softball beats Oak Mountain for 15th win. Mooney comes back after taking line drive off knee to give Oxford a strong pitching performance, production at plate.

 

HANDLEY — Kale Austin pitched a three-hitter, and Piedmont rolled up 22 hits while beating Handley 9-0 and Central Coosa 16-3 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs improved to 14-8 on the season.

Austin allowed three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts against Handley, and McClane Mohon went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

Piedmont also got a single and two RBIs from Jacob McElroy and a single and RBI apiece from Cole Austin, Trevor Pike and Kale Austin.

The Bulldogs sent 19 batters to the play and had 12 hits against Central Coosa, including Pike’s double with a run and an RBI.

Carson Sanders went 2-for-2 and scored three runs, and Piedmont got a single and RBI apiece from Ben Dempsey, Kale Austin, Jonah Pike, Brodie Homesley, Cain Hendon and Brayden Estes.

Jaxon Howard had a single, three runs and two RBIs.

Cole Wilson got the win, pitching a perfect two innings with five strikeouts.

Softball

WHITE PLAINS 4, OAK MOUNTAIN 2: Leighton Arnold pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts, Sara Kate Adams went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and White Plains (15-8) rebounded after going 1-2 in Friday’s action in the Oxford Spring Sting at Choccolocco Park.

Cassidy Arnold went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Cooper Martin was 2-for-3 with a run.

Addie Bradley and Halie Smith each had a single and scored a run.

OXFORD LOSES TWO: Also playing in the Spring Sting, Oxford fell to Plainview 3-2 and Hamilton 11-4.

Coming back after taking a line drive off of her left knee in Friday’s action, Berkley Mooney pitched seven innings against Plainview, allowing seven hits and one earned run with nine strikeouts. She also had a single, a run and an RBI.

Jordyn Alexander had a double and an RBI.

Against Hamilton, Mooney had a triple and an RBI, and Adajiah Wilson went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Oxford also got a double and RBI apiece from Ashlyn Burns and Emma Tims-Becerra.
