Jacksonville, AL – In a remarkable display of skill, determination, and teamwork, Jacksonville State University’s bowling team has clinched the National Championship title in their inaugural season, marking a historic achievement for the Gamecocks.

The thrilling showdown took place at Detroit’s iconic Thunderbowl Lanes, where the nation’s top-ranked Gamecocks faced off against the second-ranked Arkansas State in a battle that captivated both a national television audience and a packed arena.

Despite finding themselves trailing 3-2 in the high-stakes matchup, the Gamecocks rallied with unwavering resolve, ultimately triumphing over Arkansas State to claim the coveted title. Head coach Shannon O’Keefe lauded her team’s exceptional performance, acknowledging the formidable challenge posed by their opponents throughout the season.

“The girls were incredible tonight,” O’Keefe remarked. “Arkansas State bowled amazing. We knew they were going to push us… You just have to applaud them for their efforts.”

The victory not only secures Jacksonville State’s first Division I National Championship since 1992 but also represents a groundbreaking moment for the university’s bowling program. As the first-year team navigated their inaugural season, they displayed unparalleled talent and determination, culminating in a historic triumph on the national stage.

O’Keefe, who took the helm as the program’s first coach in 2023, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the university administration and the local community. Their belief in the team’s potential, coupled with the players’ dedication, propelled Jacksonville State to unprecedented success.

Reflecting on the journey to the championship, O’Keefe emphasized the team’s commitment to patience, resilience, and execution—a mantra that fueled their success throughout the season. With six games over 200 and a captivating seventh and deciding game, the Gamecocks showcased their prowess and tenacity when it mattered most.

The triumph holds significance beyond the realm of collegiate bowling, serving as a testament to the power of teamwork, perseverance, and collective ambition. For the seniors who led the charge, it represents the culmination of a dream and the fulfillment of their shared goal to leave a lasting legacy on the program.

As celebrations ensue, the Gamecocks remain focused on their next challenge—the USBC’s Intercollegiate Team Championships. With their sights set on further success, they prepare to continue their pursuit of excellence on the lanes.
