Dear Editor,
As we begin the season of Christmas there are many addicts who would like to delay until after the holiday season to get treatment. They’d like have time to be with their family and not miss another holiday. But the reality in many situations is that they resort to using more time to escape the reality of lives that they face.
They believe there is no escape from the stress of life and also no way to overcome their addiction. What they don’t realize is that they are pushed by their fears to continue using which can eventually result in an overdose or death. Being aware that you need to prioritize your needs above your desires is perhaps the most challenging aspect of going through rehabilitation.
I’ve never wanted to be addicted as a child. Growing a family and becoming electricians were my ambitions. I ended up lost along that path. One pill became numerous, which then turned into a never-ending amount and I was unsure how to handle my issues. One of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had take in the past was going to rehabilitation and it ended up being the best decision. There’s no telling where I might have ended up if I’d put off going to rehab.
Sincerely,
Matthew Goodson
