Birmingham, AL – Weaver on top in North Class 1A-4A division with state qualifiers in all weight classes. (Includes state qualifiers by school from North and South Super Sectionals.)
Two-time defending Class 1A-4A champion Weaver took command on the first day of the AHSAA North Super Sectional wrestling tournament Friday.
The Bearcats amassed 201 points to lead Corner (164.5), Ashville (148.5), Dora (136), St. John Paul II (109.5), White Plains (108.5), Fultondale (107.5), Piedmont (101), New Hope (90.5), Ohatchee (74.5), Madison County (68), Wilson (56), Deshler (55), Cherokee County (52), Pleasant Valley (41), West End (36), Alabama School for Cyber Technology and Engineering (27.5), Brooks (27) and J.B. Pennington (25.5), Randolph (25.5), Westminster Christian (21), Childersburg (13), Susan Moore (13) and Indian Springs (6).
In Class 6A, Oxford is ninth with 77 points. Mortimer Jordan leads with 222.
In the South Super Sectional in Montgomery, Oak Grove leads the Class 1A-4A division with 144 points. Cleburne County (120) is fifth, Ranburne (119) sixth, Wellborn (97.5) seventh and Saks (35) 19th.
Competition concludes Saturday with championship finals and consolation semifinals and finals in Class 1A-4A, Class 6A and Class 7A. The top six wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state tournament Feb. 15-17 in Huntsville.
Class 5A, which has fewer teams, will begin super sectional competition Saturday, with the top four wrestlers in each class advancing.
