Frank Wayne Holmes, of Andalusia, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
A memorial service for Mr. Holmes will be held on Saturday, April 27, noon, at First Methodist Church in Andalusia. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. A private interment service will follow at Green Hills Memorial Cemetery in Troy at 4 p.m.
Wayne grew up in Troy and graduated from Charles Henderson High School. After high school, he attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduation Wayne began his 40-year career with Covington Electric Cooperative. He often joked that he had the perfect job because he could work in his office when the weather was lousy or go out whenever he liked.
Wayne spent his adult life in Andalusia, a community that he loved and thrived in. He always found the time and means to make the community a better place to live. He was a proud member of Lions Club International, Little Pine Hunting Club, and the South Alabama Gun Club. Wayne was an active member at First Methodist Church Andalusia, participating in various committees and church activities. He lived the Scout Law and Oath and continually motivated both of his sons to earn their Eagle ranks in the Boy Scouts of America. Wayne loved scouting and served in various roles and capacities throughout his life. His devotion to scouting was recognized when he was awarded with the Silver Beaver, the highest award the BSA can bestow upon a volunteer.
Wayne was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was known for being a jack of all trades and applying his knowledge and experience to help those in need. There are many in the community that recall his ability to either fix a situation or know who to call. For his sons he always took the time to watch them perform in sports or music. He always made sure his wife was taken care of and had everything she needed.
Wayne always made sure to take time for himself by working on the family farm, fishing, and hunting. Often, he would take anything he caught and give to any families that needed food. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Loving survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy Lane Holmes; his sons, Michael W. Holmes (Deanna), Jeffery Holmes (Mary); and three grandchildren, Lexie, Thomas, and Kathryn Holmes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Frank and Mila Motes Holmes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Men’s Club of First Methodist Church in Andalusia and to the First Methodist Church general fund in memory of Wayne Holmes.
The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home of Troy is honored to serve the Holmes family.
