Proposed Corrective measures on the clean Fill C&D Site

Anniston Army Depot (ANAD) proposes corrective measures for soils at the Clean Fill C&D Site (Solid Waste Management Unit 71). Due to the history of operations at the site the soils on the surface and subsurface in the area were found as having contaminations of interest (COCs) at levels that could pose unacceptably health risks for potential residents. The surface soil COCs comprise four metals (chromium manganese, iron and vanadium) and one aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbon (benzo[a]pyrene) and the subsurface soil COCs contain five different metals (antimony, chromium manganese, vanadium, and antimony). The groundwater sample was not found to be affected by the source region and the sediment and surface water do not exists at the location.

The corrective measure that has been selected for SWMU 71 is to implement land-use control (LUCs) until COC concentrations have been reduced to below the goals for cleanup. Site LUCs include the implementation of an Notice of Environmental Use Restrictions (NEUR) which requires that the property be limited to commercial or industrial usage and changing existing ANAD Property Master Plan. Property Master Plan Environmental Assessment, Anniston Army Depotto include the proposed NEUR. This correctional measure was endorsed in officials from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management in a written statement dated 23 January 2023. The corrective measure that is finalized will be decided after this public comment period is over and all comments have been analyzed and analyzed.
