Calhoun County, AL – Wellborn, Ohatchee, Alexandria enjoy successful senior days. Piedmont takes Etowah to extra innings in playoff prep.

 

WELLBORN There’s baseball beyond senior day for Wellborn’s five senior baseball players, but senior day was a success.

Aziah Amberson, Tanner Ingram and Zach Pressley drove in three runs apiece, and Wellborn downed visiting Faith Christian 16-6 in the Panthers’ final tuneup for the playoffs.

Wellborn (8-18) will open the Class 3A playoffs with a first-round series at Plainview starting Friday. It marks Wellborn’s first playoff berth since 2017.

Tuesday’s game marked the regular-season home finale for seniors Ollie Boot, Brian Kilgore, John Phillips, Noah Screws and Brennan Talley.

Pressley went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs and three RBIs. Ingram had a double and three RBIs, and Amberson went 2-for-4 with a double, one run and three RBIs.

Talley went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, a run and two RBIs. Dozer Hayes went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs, and C O’Brien drove in two runs.

Will Phillips had a double and three runs, and Jackson Clark had a single, an RBI and a run.

Talley got the win, allowing two hits and one earned run with two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings.

For Faith Christian, Eli Robinson went 2-for-4 with a run, and Jayden Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Carson Harris was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run.

Brady Whitworth had a double and an RBI, and Toby Ricard had a single and an RBI.

ETOWAH 8, PIEDMONT 7: In the final playoff tuneup for both teams, Piedmont scored five runs in the seventh inning to force extra innings, but Etowah’s run in the top of the eighth held up as decisive.

Piedmont’s Cole Wilson went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, and McClane Mohon went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Cole Austin went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Jacob McElroy had a single and an RBI.

Both teams open the playoffs at home Thursday, Piedmont against Sylvania in Class 3A and Etowah against White Plains in 4A.

ALEXANDRIA 13, GLENCOE 3: Alexandria got three RBIs apiece from Bray Goode and Nic Thompson and celebrated 14 seniors with a victory in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Alexandia’s senior class includes Andrew Allen, Eli Barnes, Zach Baskins, Ty Brown, Aiden Brunner, Justin Campbell, Ian Cartwright, Caleb Folsom, Samuel Henagar, Tripp Patterson, Brodie Slaton, Evan Snow, Brayden Thacker and Thompson.

Goode went 3-for-3 with a run and three RBIs, and Thompson was 1-for-1 with a run and three RBIs.

Brown was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Brunner was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Snow had a single, a run and an RBI, and Allen had two runs and an RBI.

Campbell pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts.

Both teams eye first-round playoff series. Alexandria plays host to Douglas in a Class 5A series starting Friday, and Glencoe’s 3A series at Lauderdale County starts Thursday.

OHATCHEE 10, SAKS 0: Four Ohatchee pitchers combined to pitch a one-hitter, and Ohatchee finished its first season under head coach Kyle Parrish at 8-14.

The game marked senior day for Jesse Baswell, Will Folsom, Tyler Green and Dylan Ramsey.

Folsom went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double two runs and two RBIs, and Xavier Luna was 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs. Jakson Smith went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.

Folsom saw the most action on the mound, striking out three batters and allowing no hits or runs in two innings.
