Birmingham, AL – Children’s of Alabama patients experienced a heartwarming Valentine’s Day, thanks to the outpouring of generosity from community members. The renowned hospital collaborated with Spire for its annual Valentine’s Day card drive, bringing joy to young patients.

On Wednesday morning, staff members from the Alabama Children’s Hospital Foundation distributed Valentine’s Day cards and goody bags filled with heartfelt items, including cards and stuffed animals, to patients within the hospital. The initiative was an extension of an online card drive that commenced on February 1, resulting in the delivery of nearly 6,000 cards to patients this year.

Mindy Wald, the Community Development Manager at Children’s of Alabama, expressed gratitude, stating, “It is just so heartwarming to know that there are so many people and organizations across our state that would take the time to send cards to our patients. This made our patients’ day.”

Spearheaded by Spire, a dedicated sponsor of Children’s since 2017, the card drive held an extra layer of benevolence. Spire not only sponsored the event but also matched donations made by contributors during the card drive, pledging up to $5,000.

“Seeing all of the smiling faces on Valentine’s Day makes all of us at Spire proud to be a part of this program,” remarked Joe Hampton, President of Spire Alabama, Mississippi, and Gulf Coast.

The collaboration between Children’s of Alabama and Spire not only spreads love and joy but also showcases the positive impact that community partnerships can have on the well-being of young patients. As the colorful cards and thoughtful gifts brought smiles to the children’s faces, the initiative exemplified the spirit of compassion and community support during the season of love.
