Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College is gearing up for an exciting milestone as it prepares to host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new baseball/softball complex. The event is scheduled for 3 p.m. on April 2nd at the Gadsden Sports Park, situated behind the Wallace Drive Campus. The public is warmly invited to attend and witness the beginning of a new era for sports at Gadsden State.

Anticipation is high as the college unveils some of the exciting features planned for the complex:

– An entry concourse between fields for ease of access
– Full synthetic fields and bullpens for optimal playing conditions
– State-of-the-art LED lighting systems for enhanced visibility during evening games
– Modern scoreboards to keep fans updated on the action
– Home dugouts equipped with locker rooms and restrooms for players and coaches
– Visitor dugouts boasting spacious field storage rooms
– A concession stand catering to both baseball and softball fields
– Multi-stall restrooms ensuring comfort for spectators
– Elevated bleachers offering seating for up to 150 fans
– A covered hitting facility featuring three synthetic turf hitting/pitching lanes

This ambitious $10.1 million project is made possible by a $20 million bond issue approved by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees in November. Alongside the baseball/softball complex, funds will also be allocated for the renovation of Wallace Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus, demonstrating Gadsden State’s commitment to enhancing both athletic and academic facilities for its students and the community.

In a collaborative effort, the City of Gadsden is partnering with Gadsden State to cover half of the costs for a pedestrian bridge and parking facilities at the new complex, further enriching the experience for players, spectators, and visitors alike.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of an exciting journey for Gadsden State Community College and its sports programs. As the college continues to invest in state-of-the-art facilities, it reinforces its dedication to providing students with opportunities for excellence both on and off the field.
