Anniston, AL – As shared by Sydney Burns, an intern in the Gadsden State Public Relations and Marketing Department, in honor of Women’s History Month, Gadsden State Community College’s Ayers Campus is set to host a series of empowering events aimed at recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women. These events, curated for employees, students, and the public, will take place at the Ayers Campus Learning Resource Center Auditorium throughout the month of March.

Toni Bishop, the director of the Ayers Campus, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming events, stating, “We are excited to be hosting three separate events in celebration of Women’s History Month. We have great speakers lined up for our employees, students, and the public.”

The first two events, open to the public, are scheduled for 12:15 p.m. on March 5 and 12. On March 5, Brooke Hiett, a registered nurse, CrossFit coach, and nutrition coach, will share insights into the importance of physical health and nutrition for women.

“Physical health and nutrition are so important for women,” said Bishop. “I am excited to learn more information about this topic and apply it to my daily life.”

On March 12, Angela Walker, the dean of the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Quality Enhancement Plan director at Talladega College, will address the audience on the significance of women’s mental health.

“It is imperative that women pay attention to their mental health,” remarked Bishop. “Everyone needs to improve their mental health in some way. Coming to this event is a good start.”

Additionally, Gadsden State female employees are invited to participate in a self-defense class on March 19 at 3 p.m. Hosted by Gadsden State Police and Public Safety Department employees, Sgt. David Bankson and Officer Kathy Hollis, this class encourages attendees to wear comfortable clothes.

“I hope we have a lot of females take advantage of this event,” said Bishop. “This is a great opportunity for our female employees to learn how to protect themselves if they were to be put in a dangerous situation.”

These events not only honor the achievements of women but also aim to empower and educate participants on crucial aspects of women’s well-being, both physically and mentally. Gadsden State Community College remains committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all members of its community.
