Montgomery, AL – In the wake of the Alabama House of Representatives passing House Bill 151 (HB151) and House Bill 152 (HB152), Governor Kay Ivey has issued a statement expressing her support for the progress made in the realm of gaming legislation.
“I have long said the people of Alabama deserve to have another say on gaming, and today’s passage of HB151 and HB152 in the House is an important step forward and very significant, as this has not been accomplished by the House in years,” Governor Ivey stated.
The governor emphasized the significance of the proposal passed by the House, noting its intention to address and curb illegal gambling activities. The proposed legislation aims to clean up and crack down on the widespread issue of illegal gambling while providing Alabamians with the opportunity to voice their opinions on regulated and limited forms of gaming.
Governor Ivey acknowledged the complexity of the issue and commended the leadership of Representative Chris Blackshear, Representative Andy Whitt, and House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter. She expressed appreciation for the dedication of each House member who voted to support the measures, which seek to limit, regulate, and tax gaming and lottery activities within the state.
“I will remain engaged as this legislation moves to the Senate. In their current form, these bills will continue to have my support,” Governor Ivey affirmed.
The passage of HB151 and HB152 marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing debate over gaming regulation in Alabama. The proposed measures not only address the need for legal clarity and control but also pave the way for public input on the future of gaming activities in the state.
