Montgomery, AL – In a solemn statement issued on Tuesday, Governor Kay Ivey expressed her deep sadness upon learning of the passing of former Congressman Terry Everett. The veteran congressman peacefully passed away in his sleep at his residence in Rehobeth. Serving with distinction for eight terms in Congress, Everett dedicated his time to tirelessly representing the people of southeast Alabama and the Wiregrass region. Recognized for his unwavering commitment to Alabama’s military bases, active duty personnel, and veterans, Everett was equally a staunch advocate for the state’s farmers and small businesses.

Governor Ivey acknowledged Alabama’s significant gains under Congressman Everett’s leadership and his profound dedication to public service. She extended her heartfelt condolences to Everett’s family, friends, and former staff during this difficult time. As a mark of respect, Governor Ivey directed the immediate lowering of flags at the Alabama Capitol Complex in Montgomery and in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, where Everett served, until the day of his interment.

Congressman Terry Everett, elected to the 103rd and seven succeeding Congresses, concluded his distinguished congressional career in 2008. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he contributed to various fields as a journalist, newspaper owner and publisher, small businessman, and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Known for his unwavering support for southeast Alabama’s military and farming communities, Congressman Everett’s legacy is honored through the lowering of flags to half-staff on this day and until his interment, the details of which will be announced at a later date.
