Dear Editor,

As we approach the season of giving there are many addicts who would like to postpone until after the holiday season to take treatment. They’d like have time to be with their family and not miss another holiday. However, what they do in the majority of situations is that they resort to using more time to escape the brutal reality of their daily life.

They believe that there’s no way out from the stress of life and also no way out the ravages of addiction. What they don’t realize is that the anxiety is pushing them to use more and could eventually result in an overdose or death. It is a realization have to prioritize your needs above your wants is the most difficult part of undergoing rehabilitation.

I have never wished to become addicted as a child. Growing a family and becoming an electrician were my ambitions. I ended up lost along the way. One pill became numerous, which then turned into an unending amount and I was unsure what to do about my issues. One of the toughest choices I’ve ever faced during my time was going to rehabilitation and it ended up being the best decision. It’s hard to imagine where I would have been if I’d delayed it.

Parents will always view us as if they were their own children. However, when we’re consumed by the addiction that we are fighting, neither family members or parents can recognize us. However, they’d prefer not to watch us fight any sort of addiction that can cause us to leave.

Sure, it’s true. it’s painful to skip one holiday But going to the doctor is focused on the larger overall picture. Because it’s more painful to be unable to attend each holiday for the rest of their lives.
