Piedmont, AL – In an update on the Piedmont High School burglary and theft incident that occurred on February 24, 2024, Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson announced today that a suspect has been apprehended and charged in connection with the incident.

On the early morning of February 24, officers from the Piedmont Police Department responded to a call at Piedmont High School, located at 750 Tom Bible Memorial Hwy, regarding a reported burglary and theft. The initial investigation revealed damage to the gate at the football field and the theft of a blue golf cart. Further examination of surveillance footage unveiled a list of stolen items including a pair of blue basketball shoes, a large gray trash can, a Black and Decker leaf blower, a Kobalt leaf blower, a snail fan, and a red emergency medical backpack taken from inside the gymnasium.

Police and school staff worked collaboratively to study the surveillance footage, and as evidence mounted, investigators were able to identify a suspect in the case. A search warrant was subsequently executed at the residence of Ronald Shawn Bailey, a 33-year-old Piedmont resident.

On March 7, 2024, Piedmont Police Officers arrested Mr. Bailey on charges of Burglary 3rd and Theft of Property 1st. Following his arrest, Bailey was transported to the Piedmont City Jail, where he was booked and held until his eventual transfer to the Calhoun County Jail.

Currently held on a $30,000 bond, Ronald Shawn Bailey awaits a Preliminary Hearing scheduled for April 1, 2024, at 1:30 pm in Calhoun County District Court.

Chief Nathan Johnson expressed gratitude to the community for their assistance in identifying the suspect and helping recover some of the stolen property for the Piedmont City School System.
