Piedmont, AL –During the Piedmont City Council Meeting Tuesday evening The police chief Nathan Johnson introduced two officers who have completed their training in the Police Academy and ready to assist the residents of Piedmont on a regular basis. The two officers include Jaden Amberson, and Andrew Floyd.
Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Tourism department issued an invoice to the City for $3900. The money will be used to finance the Piedmont’s 4th of July Celebration promoting tourism in the region. Mayor Baker informed Terry Batey the funds will be deposited into an account to be used for future promotions. Batey requested the money for the event.
The Council granted approval to the City to seek an Cyber Security Grant to help the City’s cyberspace and programs stay secure.
Council approved resolution 2023-21. Council adopted resolutions 2023-21, which is the Rebuild Alabama Act for a further year. The City will get the funds from the State’s Gasoline Tax, which will be used in the City for improvements to infrastructure, and then put the money in a separate bank account.
The City’s bills have been approved to be paid for $519,492.21 and a salary amount of $151 887.85 which amounts to $671,380.06.
Police Chief Nathan Johnson gave the Police Department report for the month of July that included 39 arrests and 39 misdemeanor charges as well as eleven felony cases. Police officers initiated 591 interactions to the general public. They also handed out 38 traffic citations and attended to 3 traffic accidents.
The Interim Chief of Fire Cale Donaldson also gave a complete account from the Piedmont Fire Department. There were 109 calls in July. They also were able to train in three distinct zones during the month.
