Piedmont, AL –During the Piedmont City Council meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson informed the Mayor and Council the city’s officers have begun delivering abatement letters to residents who aren’t complying with the city’s ordinance regarding grass that is overgrown trash, weeds and weeds. Chief Johnson assured the council that they will allow residents plenty of time to address the issue. However, they need to be proactive and ensure that the situation is taken care of to avoid being charged.
The Chief Johnson gave Mayor and Council with a quote. Mayor along with the Council with a price quote replacing the weapons of officers on duty. The quote was for 14 handguns. would cost $3500. The Council agreed to the request. The Council then ratified the resolution that declared the 14 duty weapons surplus and to be transferred at the expense of GT Distributor.
A disabled citizen addressed the Council during the public comment time about his inability safely walk on the city’s sidewalks as well as between crosswalks and sidewalks due to the lack of ramps for wheelchairs. The resident also expressed frustration with the city’s transportation system, which includes a mini-bus, which provides transportation for medical appointments. Mayor Baker informed the resident they would investigate the issue in all areas and look into what they can do about it.
The Fire Chief presented his Fire Department the report of June. There were four hazardous conditions calls eleven service calls, six fires, three good intent calls five false alarms, false alarm, one special incident type, and responded to 74 emergency and rescue medical incidental service calls. He said that a few firefighters were trained.
The Police Chief presented the police department’s report for June. We’ve had a total of 27 arrests for 33 misdemeanor and 9 felony charges. Officers made 563 contact with officers initiated by the public, slapped an average of 59 traffic tickets, and attended to 7 traffic accidents. Officers were dispatched to 289 requests for service. Of the 87 calls, 87 resulted in an investigation being filed. The officers patrolled 7512 miles throughout the month of. The dispatch office was contacted by 2413 calls. They dispatched 433 emergency calls, 112 fire calls, and 10 utility calls after hours. The court’s collections for June were 16,602.66 as well as 6108 which was held by the city.
Council approved the Council approved bills of payment that is $183,732.37 and $62,721.03 to pay the payroll.
