Record of Decision for the FORMER SKEET AND TRAP RANGE

Fort McClellan Army National Guard Training Center (FM-ARNGTC)

The Army National Guard (ARNG) has released an official Record of Decision for the former Trap and Skeet Range located at the FM-ARNGTC located in Anniston, Calhoun County, Alabama. It is believed that the Former Trap and Skeet Range is a historic Morale, Welfare, and Recreation shotgun trap and Skeet range. It is unclear what time it took before the Former Trap and Skeet Range was in use, however the equipment for throwing targets was taken away in 1988, and the range was later used to serve other military purposes. The main chemical components present in both ranges are lead derived from lead shot pellets and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons derived from clay targets.

The Record of Decision of the Former Trap and Skeet Rangesummarizes the Selected remedy for Land Use Controls. They prohibits residential use of land. This Selected Remedy will include institutional controls, including the limitation to the future and present usage of the property for industrial and commercial uses only. Controls for administrative use will decrease the possibility of exposure to contaminants that pose a threat in soil. There were no groundwater contaminants of concern were discovered. The efficacy of the Selected Solution will be assured through continued monitoring and implementation by ARNG and, if required pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act and the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan the examination of the solution will take place at every 5 years, to evaluate if it’s safe for environmental health as well as human health.

The representatives of representatives of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management agree with the choice of Land Use Controls as the selected remedy. Its Record of Decision document has been deposited within the Administrative Record at the Jacksonville State University McClellan Center located at 100 Gamecock Drive, Room 1145, Anniston, Alabama 36205 and is available for inspection.
