In the wake of Crises of the last year 2024 Brings Hope
In the last week of this year, I celebrated the one year anniversary of my swearing-in into the United States Senate, capping the whirlwind 12 months of hard work on behalf of the citizens of Alabama. I’m very proud both my staff and me were able to start the process in the first day of my tenure and worked hard not only to achieve tangible outcomes for our state and the nation, but also to take on the fight for our fundamental values of family, faith and freedom.
It’s clear to my mind that this Senate seat I currently hold does not belong to a single person It belongs to the citizens of Alabama. I am not flinching about the responsibility that Alabamans have trusted me and I rise each day determined to live up to the expectations set to the hard-working individuals and women who have sent me to represent the state’s citizens and their interests, values, and principles. This requires me to roll up my sleeves, seated next to my colleagues and doing the hard work of implementing the real solutions that really put our nation back on the right path.
The majority of the work done isn’t featured in the press or be a viral hit through social media platforms, but it’s essential to Alabamans’ lives as well as the future of our nation. Our team has been working diligently behind the scenes in order to make progress on difficult issues and assist Alabamians. In 2023, we mailed nearly 61,000 letters correspondence to constituents in response to their concerns and discussing their concerns, and helped thousands of residents by assisting them with cases involving federal agencies.
The year was full of legislative activity and politically. I cosponsored or sponsored over 200 bills, that range from protecting our children from social media, making sure that all Alabamian can access the services of mental health professionals and extending the right to education to making those who run the Chinese Communist Party accountable, protecting American agriculture and vital industries, and defending against the rabid overregulation that is threatening the ability of Alabamians to access banking services. We’ve already managed to pass a number of pieces of legislation through the Senate floor and continue to do our best each day to bring the ball forward with regard to a myriad of important priority issues.
There’s no issue that is more important to the safety and security of our communities and families than the present national security as well as the humanitarian and economic problem at our southern border. In the first two months of my the office, I visited our border 3 times since I believe it is crucial to observe situations on the ground and experience directly from experience in order to comprehend the issue and come up with effective and solid policies.
Over the course of 3 years we’ve shatter the record – only to break it again all relevant records that exists. In the final year of the presidency of Vice President Biden the country is expected to have over 10 million contacts with those traveling illegally across our border and the situation is only getting worse. December saw around 300,000 illegal encounters, which is well past the previous record of almost 270,000. Most alarmingly, our country is close to 2 million reported escapees during the Biden Administration – we don’t know who they are, where they’re from or where they’re headed or what their motives are.
We must not allow this situation to persist. We must act swiftly immediately to secure the frontier and ensure the rule of law throughout our nation’s interior. I’ve presented three bills and cosponsored a number of additional pieces of legislation to achieve this. I’m also fighting to convince Senate Democrats to awaken and join with my Republican colleagues in taking action as required to defend America.
But, our urge to act must not be a cause for us to rush into unwise actions that don’t solve the problem – a Band-Aid that simply covers the issue is not a solution in the slightest. As the ranking member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I’ve been a leader in opposition to the Biden Administration’s efforts to finance incendiary policies that just fuel and encourage more massive migration. As long as we don’t change the disastrous policies of President Biden and press him to take action against the abuse of asylum, end the blanket paroles, end capture and release and ultimately detain and exile illegal immigrants This crisis will keep raging.
We can’t consider the security threats to our nation at our borders in isolation.
No matter what it is: Communist China, Iran (and its terror proxy), Russia, or North Korea, our adversaries continue to intensify their wars in a stoked pattern of appeasement as well as weakness by the current Administration. It is a very dangerous time in our history and I am determined to advocate for a return to peace and strength to ensure that we keep Americans secure in the United States and abroad. I was pleased to be a part of legislation in this year’s session that will make sure that our soldiers and civilians who serve in uniform are the most equipped, resourceful and educated around the globe.
The problems we’ve encountered this year go beyond threats to our physical security and foreign enemies and foreign adversaries, too. Every hard-working Alabama family has had to deal with a food-related crisis that was triggered by Bidenomics – tax and spend policies that increased inflation and pulled more money out of the pockets of taxpayers to fund partisan projects of the extreme left. In the last week the national debt exceeded $34 trillion for the first time in. That’s why one of my most important goals as an incoming participant on the Senate Appropriations Committee is to bring the process of appropriations back to a full-time regular procedure for the very first time since 1990’s in order to take on the wasteful spending of our government and stop putting an unjust and irresponsible burden upon our children as well as our children’s kids.
I am convinced that every penny of taxpayer money earned hard-earned should be spent in a prudent, responsible manner and in a transparent manner. This is the reason I’ve been fighting for years for as much of the money as is possible to Alabama instead of letting spending it on Pelosi project located in California as well as Schumer’s specials in New York. In the Appropriations Committee I was able to secure over $1.2 billion in strategic investment in Alabama in the last year. This includes projects at Alabama’s military bases as well as improvements to the local waterways and roads as well as addressing critical needs like expanding the coverage of ambulances throughout rural Alabama.
It’s been a very productive first year. We are only starting to build.
The moment I swore the oath to take office the cold, January morning the year before, I felt flooded not only with pride, but also with enormous optimism for the coming years. While 2023 had many crises however, I am convinced that if we fight on the good fight, our state’s as well as our nation’s most promising times are ahead.
As President Reagan stated, “the future doesn’t belong to the timid It is reserved for the courageous.”
I’m wishing everyone in Alabama the best of health, safety and successful 2024. Let’s face those challenges and possibilities before us with a straight face.
