Calhoun County AL – In a tightly contested race for Calhoun County Probate Judge, Shirley Millwood emerged as the victor in the runoff election. Millwood’s win marks a significant milestone in her journey to public service, as she prepares to take on the responsibilities of the probate judge role.
In an interview with the Calhoun Journal, Millwood expressed her gratitude for the support she received throughout the campaign. “I’m just so appreciative for everyone it took an army to make this happen. And I certainly couldn’t have done it alone,” Millwood shared. She credited the success of her campaign to the support of her community and the guidance she believes she received from a higher power.
Millwood’s victory was hard-fought, with a narrow margin separating her from her opponent, Jon Garlick. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Millwood secured 50.75% of the vote, with 1,763 votes cast in her favor, while Garlick received 49.25% with 1,711 votes. However, it’s important to note that these results are unofficial until certified by the Secretary of State.
In response to his defeat, Garlick conveyed his appreciation for the support his campaign received and acknowledged the professionalism with which both candidates conducted themselves. “I’m grateful for all of the support received. We ran a very professional campaign,” Garlick stated. Despite the disappointment of low voter turnout, Garlick extended his well wishes to Millwood as she prepares to assume the probate judge position.
Looking ahead, Millwood outlined her plans to transition into her new role. She shared her intention to return to work immediately, expressing a desire to shadow the current probate judge’s assistant and gain valuable insights into the responsibilities of the position. Millwood also expressed her intention to gradually wind down her private practice in preparation for assuming the bench on January 20th.
