Drillingham’s Kanakanak Hospital had an active shooter in the early morning of January. 14th According an announcement issued by the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation. There were no injuries reported.
Jennifer De Winne, the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation’s chief operating officer, told in a phone call for KDLG in which the gunman failed when he attempted to get into the emergency department of the hospital. The the doors had been locked the time, as according to hospital procedures, however the shooter fired a number of shots using a shotgun, including at vehicles that were parked in the vicinity of the hospital.
De Winne said that multiple hospital staff members made an emergency call immediately and the hospital followed the active shooter protocol.
The shooter later left the scene in the back of a four-wheeler, and was detained in the custody of Dillingham police further along the road.
The hospital’s staff, de Winne stated, have been meeting to discuss the incident, and will conduct a formal review next week.
The Dillingham Police Department did not respond to a request for comment at the time of this report.
